Quit Tobacco
Ask anyone - tobacco use is one of the toughest addictions to overcome. Relapse rates are high and feelings of withdrawal and discouragement can overwhelm. Tobacco dependence becomes physically, mentally and emotionally embedded into your lifestyle over many years, so peeling back the layers during the cessation process can take some time. This is because of the numerous hooks and triggers it has in a person's life. There are the habitual triggers, the chemical addiction to nicotine, the co-mingled emotions, the social aspect, and the daily rhythm regulation.
Like most big life changes, the key to success is PRACTICE! And, here's where your coach can make all the difference! The right coach can help you focus, resolve ambivalence, create a personal plan, identify triggers, learn from past slips and maintain your commitment. Studies have shown that tobacco users who include COACHING in their quit plan have a 2 to 3 times greater chance of success.
With over 12 years as a Certified Tobacco Cessation Coach, I have helped thousands of clients at Maine Medical Center for Tobacco Independence (CTI) in Portland, Maine and John Snow Research and Training Institute in Boston. The evidence-based tobacco cessation programs at MaineHealth CTI and John Snow Research and Training Institute became a model for the nation.
Tobacco use is one of the most deadly, expensive and challenging addictions to overcome. A pack a day tobacco habit today costs an average of over $7,000 a year, including all time and medical losses. Smokers also pay more for insurance, lose money on the resale value of their cars and homes, and spend extra on dry cleaning and teeth cleaning. Long term, they earn less and receive less in pension and Social Security benefits. According to the CDC, the total health costs of smoking are staggering. Check out their Fact Sheet. Each year, 480,000 Americans die from tobacco-related illness.
Quitting tobacco will improve your health, motivation, self-esteem & finances. A Coach with expertise in Tobacco Cessation, along with my Be Tobacco-Free program, can help you create a plan, stay on track, reach your goals, and avoid relapse to bad habits.
